Queer Identities Glossary

We know how hard it can be nowadays to stay informed; so here is a glossary of sexual orientations and gender identities to broaden your queer vocabulary!

Queer Identities Glossary I Queer Society

Gender Orientations

Bi-Gender | Bi-gender people identify with two different genders. They can move back and forth between distinct masculine and feminine personas depending on their mood or situation. Most importantly, they can have very diverse wardrobes!

Cisgender | Cisgender individuals identify with the gender that matches their birth sex.

Non-Binary | Non-Binary is an umbrella term for any identity that does not fall under the binary of male or female. For example, agender and bigender.

Pangender | Pangender is a non-binary identity that involves a wide array of gender that can even go beyond what society understands. A pangender person’s identity is shaped by their own understanding of gender.

Transman | A transman is a person who identifies with the male gender but was assigned the female sex at birth.

Transwoman | A transwoman is a person who identifies with the female gender but was assigned the male sex at birth.

Sexual Orientations

Asexual | Asexuals have no sexual attraction towards anyone of any gender. This is different, however, from aromantics who have no romantic feelings towards anyone of any gender. A person can be both asexual and aromantic or any combination of the two.

Bisexual | Bisexuals are sexually attracted to both men and women, but nothing in between or beyond.

Demisexual | Demisexuality is in between (demi) asexuality and sexuality. Demisexuals only feel sexual attractions towards people they have an emotional or romantic connections with.

Heterosexual | Heterosexuality is very STRAIGHT forward. Heterosexuals are attracted to the opposite sex of their own.

Homosexual | Homosexuality is the opposite of heterosexuality. Homosexuals are attracted to the same sex as their own.

Pansexual | Pansexuals DO NOT CARE. It doesn’t matter if you’re male, female, non-binary, transgender, or anything in between, they are attracted to all gender identities. And no, they are not attracted to pans.

Polysexual | Polysexuals are similar to pansexuals in that they are attracted to multiple genders; just not all of them.

Queer | Queer is an umbrella term for all minority sexual and gender orientations. You might not know exactly who you are right now? That’s cool. If you’re not a heterosexual cisgender person, you can identify as queer!

Skoliosexual | Skoliosexuals are attracted to non-binary individuals; or those who do not identify as any gender.
